I personally have tried it both ways, plus I currently have landing pages that can be found through my website navigation menu.
If I have a high ticket item then you more inclined to drive traffic first to some sort of lead magnet opt in and then warm up my prospect through an email sequence before I make an offer.
A low ticket item however, may not need to have such a funnel setup as it is a smaller decision for the prospect to make.
As with everything you have to try it on your setup to see what results you can get and you can then make a decision from that point.
