This post goes into what a lead magnet, or lead generator, is all about and how you can utilise it to grow your email list and get more leads.
Lead magnet explained
A lead magnet is a free item that is offered to a potential lead in order to provide some upfront value in exchange for their contact information.
What’s a good lead magnet?
A lead magnet can be anything you offer for free to your audience. These can be video training, webinar, pdf files, or free consulting to name a few.
The most common items are pdf ebooks, checklists or guides.
How to implement a lead magnet –
There are a few things you need to have in place in order to successfully supply a lead magnet and capture leads.
- Opt-in page
This is the landing page where you’ll send visitors in order for them to sign up for your lead magnet with an email address. On your page you would have information about what is being offered and a form to collect the users details.
- Email autoresponder system
An email autoresponder or email marketing system that allows you to automatically subscribe users to an email list and send out predefined emails.
- Delivery system
Your lead magnet needs to be hosted or stored somewhere, and it needs to get to the user once they sign up. In the case of a small file such as a pdf, the simplest way is to store it on your website and have your email autoresponder send the link to a subscriber. In other cases you may want to store your file elsewhere, such as on cloud services.
Once you have all these in place your goal is to promote your lead magnet and get as many people as possible entering your funnel. You can then have your email marketing systems send out a sequence of emails to welcome them and introduce them to more valuable content or products that can help them more.
